Redecorating, renovating and building on to your home are all big tasks to take on. It takes money and a whole lot of time. Often it’s something you put off because it’s really stressful and you just don’t have the spare time to get everything done. So, when you do get around to it, why not do it for a good cause and make your home more eco-friendly?

Giving your home an eco-friendly makeover is good for the environment and good for you. It’s a great way to give your house a fresh look and feel as well do something good for the environment. Here are a few great things you can do…

Upcycle your furniture – Repurposing old furniture and giving it a new look and a new function is a great way to add style to your home and save some money in the process. It’s a fun activity that gives you complete control over what your “new” furniture looks like. There are endless ways to upcycle your furniture.

Solar water heating – Buying a solar geyser may seem like an expensive investment, but it could end up saving you lots of money in the long run. As long as the sun is shining, you can turn off your geyser without the threat of a cold shower if you forget to turn it back on. Plus, it’s good for saving energy, which is what this is all about.

Create environmentally-friendly art – Have you ever thought of creating your own artwork? When you create environmentally-friendly works of art you don’t have to be good with a paintbrush or have exceptional drawing skills. Simply visit some scrapyards, gather up some good looking “junk” and make something extraordinary.

Decorate with plants – Loads of people have one or two miniature pot plants in their house, but big plants make for great decorations. You probably won’t want your living room turned into a jungle, but plant some seeds in a tall pot and it’ll give the room new life.

Add some finishing touches – Get rid of your old light bulbs and replace them with eco-friendly bulbs. Start your own herb garden (it doesn’t have to be big, just big enough to plant your herbs), and create your own compost.

Of course, there are so many unique and interesting ways you can give your home an eco-friendly makeover. But these are some fun ones to get you started. You can work on these projects alone or involve your partner for some bonding.
